    Do you want to build software tools to support one of the world's most sophisticated Internet infrastructures in a very challenging environment? Do you want to drive the capacity framework by which we meet the demands of endlessly growing services? Global Network Development designs and builds connectivity solutions for all Amazon products, including AWS and retail websites. We are responsible for procuring internet and intra/inter-region connectivity for our Border, Backbone, and Data Center networks as well as Edge Colocation site planning. Expansion focused Technical Business Developers play a pivotal role in centralizing capacity prioritization, planning, and setting strategic targets. To be successful in this role you'll need to be comfortable working with a high level of ambiguity. You'll need to use your software development management skills to help solve complex problems and exercise great judgment. You will manage the build of tools that do requirements gathering, evaluate existing implementations, and outline metrics that scale. This role will work closely with multiple business teams and international product and services groups.

    We’re looking for a Software Development Manager to empower the Global Network Development team to grow the business and provide a great customer experience. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers in designing, developing, testing, and deploying a variety of new services. You will be responsible for upholding a high bar in operational excellence and quality. You will partner across functions to help define creative vision, product requirements, user experience, and cross-team integration for this new fashion experience. Working with a multi-disciplinary team of analysts, designers, product managers, business stakeholders, and central team engineers, you will help define and drive the product from concept all the way through to production.

    A successful candidate will have an established background in developing real time scalable systems, a strong technical ability, excellent project management skills, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast paced environment. They also have a proven track record hiring and developing engineers, helping them meet and exceed their career goals.

    Key responsibilities:
    • Recruit, hire, mentor, and manage a team of software engineers.
    • Foster career growth and a strong team culture.
    • Interface with internal customers to understand requirements, set priorities, and communicate direction and progress.
    • Own all operational metrics and support for your team’s software.
    • Manage the agile development process and methodology to deliver tech requirements on time and with a high-degree of precision and quality.
    • Help develop long-term business and technology strategies.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline;
    • 7+ years of experience as a software developer;
    • 3+ years of experience managing people;
    • Experience developing and executing a software roadmap
    • Experience managing front-end, back-end, and services-oriented software systems;
    • Experience leading highly-skilled software engineering teams;
    • Experience building teams and recruiting software engineers.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Deep hands-on technical expertise; prior experience as a software developer or software development manager preferred;
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences;
    • Ability to handle multiple, competing priorities in a fast-paced environment;
    • Ability to navigate ambiguity and delivery incrementally to the right direction;
    • A deep understanding of the software development lifecycle, and a track record of shipping software on time;
    • Experience designing software architectures for scalability, reliability, and performance;
    • A passion for people management and mentorship.
