    The Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) team in our Herndon, VA Development Center is expanding and we are in need of a passionate, results-oriented, innovative software development manager. We are looking for an experienced software development manager who can lead an amazing team of engineers as they expand, optimize, and refine our service to manage our rapidly increasing scale and feature demand in the face of explosive customer growth. In this position you will manage and provide technical direction to a team of software engineers, with direct responsibility for managing timelines and deliverables, as well as thinking big about where the service is going.     Our team is responsible for building out new services within the EC2 control plane to manage virtual machines at scale for our customers. We are pushing the limits and innovating across multiple areas including software defined virtualization, containers, networking, and storage.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Math
    • Minimum of 4 years developing software in modern programming languages such as C++, Java, Ruby, or Scala
    • Minimum of 2 years developing software solutions on the Linux platform
    • Minimum of 5 years experience software development management
    • Minimum of 3 years experience managing and developing direct reports (performance review communication, accountability, motivation/engagement)

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience establishing and evolving lean or agile development processes
    • Experience building and operating web-scale applications
    • First-hand knowledge of the engineering challenges with large scale distributed systems
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Graduate degree a plus
