    The Amazon Alexa Skills Store is aggressively seeking a Speech Scientist to be a member of a cross-functional team. By using massive amounts of real-time and historical user data you will help research, develop and automate models for semantic understanding, text similarities and grammars. Working with a team of software development engineers, a successful candidate has a bias for action and is most comfortable when testing their hypotheses using heterogeneous datasets. You will be expected to challenge current methods while enriching the world’s most advanced speech platform.

    Basic Qualifications

    · Master's degree in Computational Linguistics, Engineering, Statistics or related field
    · 3+ year of experience in two or more of these or similar Natural Language Processing topics: word categorization and tagging, syntactic parsing, word sense disambiguation, topic modeling; contextual text mining, application of machine learning to NLP, semantic similarity, phrasal semantic analysis, text matching and similarity, word embedding, lexicon normalization, named entity recognition
    · Experience with data mining, and analytics techniques
    · Experience in programming in R, Python, SAS or similar languages
    · Experience with NLP libraries such as NLTK, openNLP, Stanford-NLP, WordNet, SAS Text Miner or other NLP software.
    · Experience with data visualization and presentation, turning complex analysis into insight


    Preferred Qualifications

    · PhD in Computational Linguistics, Engineering, Statistics or related field
    · Previous experience/education in syntax, semantics and morphology
    · Previous experience in data scientist, analyst or NLP specialist role with a large technology company
    · Experience with AWS features (S3, Redshift) is a plus
    · Familiarity in writing SQL scripts
    · Excellent communication, analytical and collaborative problem-solving skills
    · Demonstrable track record dealing well with ambiguity, prioritizing needs, and delivering results in an agile, dynamic environment
    · Experience with semantic understanding of short phrases/notes
    · Experience collaborating with software development teams, data scientists, business intelligence or other technical roles​
