    Amazon is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join an exciting new project team working to build a completely new best in class consumer product.     As a founding member of the team, you will work alongside with product management, research, design, and engineering (EE/ME) to define and build this new product. This position requires deep customer focus, the ability to dive deep and invent, and the ability to make hard decisions fast.

    The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the system architectures and module designs of a new product. You will be the owner of all aspects of ME product design. You should have experience designing and analyzing complex consumer devices that have shipped at medium to high volumes, and have worked in all stages of the product lifecycle.

    The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for:
    • All aspect of the products mechanical design
    • Working closely with engineering (EE, SDE), Industrial design, UX, product management, and research to drive new product development programs from concept to production
    • Starting with the customer experience to create product that have functional beauty and delight our users.
    • Developing advanced technology platforms that can be broadly applied
    • Documenting detailed product requirements
    • Maintaining high level of communications with cross-functional team, and partners
    • Mentoring colleagues
    • Prototyping to quickly answer questions and make design decisions

    Basic Qualifications

    • BS Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics (or similar field)
    • 7+ years of product development experience with emphasis on products that are manufacture at high volume
    • Hands-on product development and design of complex electro-mechanical systems
    • Experience with 3D CAD modeling and drawing creation
    • Experience with designing plastic injection molded components and sheet metal, die cast and machined parts
    • Experience in medium to high volume manufacturing and working with offshore manufacturers
    • Experience designing soft good
    • Product validation experience (Shock/Drop, Cycle Testing, and Environmental Testing)

    Preferred Qualifications

      • MS/Ph.D. Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, (or similar field)
      • Excellent written (white papers) and oral communication skills
      • Strong organizational and planning skills
      • Strong communication and documentation skills and ability to operate autonomously
      • Detailed system modeling experience and demonstrable experience using these models to drive design trades and design requirements
      • Broad exposure to mechanical, electrical, firmware and control systems design and development practices including common engineering tools used for such efforts with detailed knowledge and expertise in at least one of the areas
      • Deep understanding of the business and customer needs, and can proficiently translate those needs into the right technology solution
      • Resolves complex issues in creative, efficient, and effective ways
      • Brings a department and company-wide perspective to detailed technical decisions
      • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role
