    As a founding member of the team, you will work alongside with product management, research, design, and engineering (EE/ME) to define and build this new product. This position requires deep customer focus, the ability to dive deep and invent, and the ability to make hard decisions fast.

    The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the system architectures and module designs of a new product. You will be the owner of all aspects of ME product design, tinkering with motors/robotics, and hacking the prototypes. The ideal candidate has experience designing and analyzing mechanical systems and has experience in medium to high volume manufacturing, and most importantly, the “maker” mindset to get your hands dirty esp. in the early stages.

    The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for:
    • Leading, identifying, and evaluating solution designs with specific domain focus on robotics (including gripping) and mobility
    • Hands-on building new, innovative mechatronic systems
    • Developing advanced technology platforms that can be broadly applied
    • Evaluating total system cost of ownership for new robotics opportunities
    • Documenting detailed product requirements
    • Work closely with engineering (EE, SDE), Industrial design, UX, product management, and research to drive new product development programs from concept to production
    • Maintaining high level of communications with cross-functional team, and partners
    • Mentoring colleagues

    Basic Qualifications

    • BS Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics (or similar field)
    • 7+ years of product development experience with emphasis on electromechanical automation equipment
    • Hands-on product development and design of complex electro-mechanical systems
    • Experience with 3D CAD modeling and drawing creation
    • Experience with designing plastic injection molded components and sheet metal, die cast and machined parts
    • Experience in medium to high volume manufacturing and working with offshore manufacturers
    • Experience designing soft good
    • Experience with Arduino and Raspberry Pi

    Preferred Qualifications

    • MS/Ph.D. Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, (or similar field)
    • Excellent written (white papers) and oral communication skills
    • Strong organizational and planning skills
    • Strong communication and documentation skills and ability to operate autonomously
    • Detailed system modeling experience and demonstrable experience using these models to drive design trades and design requirements
    • Broad exposure to mechanical, electrical, firmware and control systems design and development practices including common engineering tools used for such efforts with detailed knowledge and expertise in at least one of the areas
    • Deep understanding of the business and customer needs, and can proficiently translate those needs into the right technology solution
    • Resolves complex issues in creative, efficient, and effective ways
    • Brings a department and company-wide perspective to detailed technical decisions
