AWS is continually evaluating new data center regions where we host our services to serve our current and future customers. Our Infra Strategy and Planning team within Infra Global Expansion (IGE) aims to plan our new regions and data center builds in new geographies. Complexity of determining our launch strategy in a new location varies and ultimately depends on a number of technical, financial, and local factors that need to be weighed and considered to determine the best approach, timelines for delivery, and long term growth strategy to scale to meet AWS customer needs. Typical factors include launch footprint, expected demand and capacity utilization, networking topology and cost, and utility infrastructure delivery and costs.
This position is responsible for driving key decisions and executive recommendations on our global data center launches. Planning and developing new regions is likely one of the broadest roles in our Infrastructure organization as you are expected to know many of the different aspects of our Infra business including data centers, networks, hardware engineering and utilization, supply chain and capacity planning. In this role, the Senior Manager will be responsible for end to end Infra planning for multiple new AWS data center regions. The position will be expected to formulate and communicate business plans to key management and Infra teams. New region planning happens in coordination with our key Infra delivery teams, including Real Estate, Networking, Construction, Energy, Water, Design & Engineering. You will also be expected to work closely with our finance planning teams in the development of the most strategic solutions to support our growth trajectory. As you make recommendations, you will be expected to understand and draw conclusions from financial models to make final recommendations on our region launches.

Several other key aspects to the job: 1/ lead initiatives in creation or use of tools for region planning tracking; 2/ lead cross functional meetings with customer facing organizations including our Public Sector, Commercial Sales, Public Policy, Direct Connect and Cloudfront teams; and 3/ development and support of key business objectives aimed at optimizing launch profiles of our data center regions.

Basic Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have both a business and technical background that enables her or him to drive engagement amongst the Infra technical, Commercial Sales, Policy, Finance, and Legal teams. She or he should have a demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically about business, product, and technical challenges, with the ability to build and convey compelling value propositions at an executive level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of proven and related technical and professional experience
  • Knowledge of data centers or technical engineering equivalents
  • Strong business acumen, highly developed leadership, analytical abilities, and outstanding communication skills
  • The ability to work effectively within a highly matrixed organization and lead cross functionally.
