The Database Services team within AWS is responsible for setting the database strategy and delivering distributed database services to AWS customers to meet both their relational and non-relational database needs. Today, the team delivers services including Amazon RDS, Amazon DynamoDB, RDS Aurora, Amazon ElastiCache, Amazon Redshift, Amazon Elastic Map Reduce, and Amazon QuickSight. It is still day one for our Database Services businesses. Over the next few years, together they will represent a very large business for Amazon. We are looking for an experienced Principal Product Manager to help us grow the business by defining and delivering industry leading next generation database services architected for the cloud.
This position within Database Services team represents a rare opportunity to get in on the ground floor within a fast growing business and help shape the technology, product and the business. A successful candidate must be able to engage internal and external customers and other product managers to identify new product opportunities, define & design product features, and working closely with development teams to get those in to the hands of customers. Successful applicants will have experience defining products, extensive experience in leading diverse, cross-functional teams, and will meet a high technical bar. You will need to be able to communicate clearly and compelling at all levels of the company.

Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years of Technical Product Management experience with Internet business experience
  • Proven track record of taking a product from conception & definition phase through engineering design and taking it to marketA
  • Demonstrated writing skills at a level suitable for presentation to senior executives
  • Scripting and tooling experience to work with, improve, and automate reporting systems
  • Analytical background sufficient for pricing / margin / elasticity analysis
  • Technical competence with distributed systems, networking, storage, and security
  • BA/BS in a technically relevant field

Preferred Qualifications

  • 15+ years in Technical Product Management, both in individual contributor or management roles
  • MBA
  • BS in Computer Science / Engineering / Mathematics
  • Familiarity with database concepts and the technology used in commercial products
  • Provable and documented track record of taking ownership and driving actual business results (e.g. analysis of revenue or margin increases, field and consumer program management with measurable results)
  • Sound business judgment, proven ability to influence others, and strong analytical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, manage, and prioritize multiple sub-projects simultaneously in order pull together a single vision
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and ability to navigate a complex and unstructured cross-functional environment
  • Strong writing examples and a history of making presentations to technical audiences of hundreds of people
