AWS Infrastructure is looking for an experienced software development manager to work on scaling a distributed architecture. Our infrastructure teams land more server capacity daily than was used to run the entirety of in the year 2004 when it was already a $7B/year business. To accompany this growth, we need new tools for tracking and reporting to plan accurately and analyze cost drivers of our infrastructure. Take part in building these tools that handle all this spending in new and innovative ways.

The role requires a willingness to dive deep into the internals of AWS data center capacity delivery process and a passion for automating complex processes. You'll build systems to efficiently plan AWS data center capacity and ensures high availability rate and minimizes waste. You’ll be leading a team to create new designs for maintainable and scalable applications. You will get to meet directly with our customers to come up with innovative User Interfaces.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline
  • 6+ years of relevant engineering experience
  • 4+ years people management experience
  • Experience with agile development approach.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Ruby, Scala or C/C++ with a strong base in object-oriented design and development
  • Strong business and technical vision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to achieve stretch goals in a highly innovative and fast paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with large distributed systems
  • Experience with Web service technologies and SOA
  • Demonstrated capability to learn and implement new technologies at short notice
  • Hands-on technical expertise
  • A deep understanding of software development in a team, and a track record of shipping software on time
  • Ability to discover the true requirements underlying feature requests, recommend alternative technical and business approaches, and lead engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines with optimal solutions
