    The AWS Shield team builds services that protect AWS infrastructure, Amazon.com, and some of the world’s largest applications against the availability impact of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.

    In this role, you will support the AWS DDoS Response Team (DRT) in building robust, well-architected systems that enable attack analysis and rapid mitigation. Our systems include user interfaces, event response automation, and API integrations that allow operators to identify and execute the right decisions, at the right time, protecting the availability of our customers. You will help lead new feature development, distributed system design, continuous improvement, and other initiatives to deliver a frictionless experience for AWS customers.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or similar quantitative field, or related industry experience
    • 3+ years experience in modern object-oriented programming languages (e.g. Ruby, Java)
    • 3+ years experience in object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Demonstrable expertise in software engineering best practices and full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
    • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and influence both product strategy and outcomes in technical decision-making
