Job Description

Audible is hiring a senior media professional to oversee the development and execution of a range of live event, interview, and performance-based audio programming. The Director, Live Audio Productions will have deep experience as a creative and technical media producer, capable of overseeing the end-to-end development of multiple, concurrent audio productions -- from ideation to greenlight, pre-production, field recording, post-production and delivery. Candidates must have proven experience in personally developing and bringing to market exceptional live event-based and interview-based programming, possess extensive audio production experience, and have a track record of successfully managing the creative output of independent producers. This position will be based in San Francisco, CA, but will require occasional travel.

  • Partnership Development: Personally identify and develop relationships with third-party partners, including speaker series, event series, and top talent to create new sources of original, event-based audio programming.
  • Creative Development: Define innovative presentations and formats for event-based audio programming via creative editorial direction and the application of cutting edge technology and creative story telling
  • Production: Oversee end-to-end production, including overseeing staffing, technical requirements, talent relations, interviews, venue relationships, and all aspects of field recording
  • P&L: Manage P&L for a range of individual productions, liaising with legal, finance and AP while, ensuring on-time, on-budget productions
  • Creative: Maintain responsibility for creative program decisions, make final editorial content decisions, and oversee all day-to-day programming to ensure it is consistently of the highest quality

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum 7+ years’ experience in media production and field recording
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and evaluate rich stories, through creative writing and media production
  • Expert experience with digital audio capture equipment, digital editing systems and processes
  • A track record of creating media programming, from initial ideation to distribution, with popular consumer response
  • An extensive portfolio of produced media programming, recorded interviews and events
  • Demonstrated experience managing a team, including excellent project management, communication and organizational skills
  • Interest in capturing and bringing to life creative stories across multiple disciplines, including science, technology, business, and entertainment
  • A desire to be a key member of a small but rapidly growing team with lots of growth opportunities
