Job Description

Amazon Web Services has built some of the largest distributed systems in the world, and we are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to help us constantly improve them. The AWS Reliability team ensures that AWS customers have the highest-availability, lowest-latency cloud experience on the planet. We partner with AWS product teams to build data collection and operational automation systems that detect and mitigate risks before they cause problems for our customers. We are looking for an experienced Data Scientist to help us succeed in this mission.

Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze business and operational data to identify and correct problems
- Explain system performance and capabilities to business leaders
- Develop analytic capabilities, platforms, and pipelines
- Develop key metrics and performance indicators to evaluate overall system performance
- Participate in service design reviews to influence the architecture of new AWS services

Basic Qualifications

- 3+ combined years of applied mathematics, machine learning, data science or engineering, or software development
- Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Computer Science
- Very strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience or good knowledge/understanding of system and software engineering processes
- Strong track record in converting data analysis into tangible and significant real-world changes
- Experienced working in a fast-paced, high-tech environment (preferably software development) and comfortable navigating conflicting priorities and ambiguous problems
- Demonstrated experience incubating new technology while working closely with research scientists, software developers, and technical professionals from product conception to implementation
- Proven written and verbal communication skills to convey complicated processes and systems to business partner
