As a Technical Writer in Amazon Web Services (AWS), you will have the exciting opportunity to work with a stellar technical team to produce product documentation in a cross-functional, distributed environment.

To enable this, the technical publications team plays a vital role in getting our customers up and running quickly and making sure that the details of our products are clearly described, as well as easy to consume and follow.

Candidates should have both a technical background that enables them to easily interact with Software Design Engineers, Product Managers, and Technical Program Managers, and a demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality technical publications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Drive the documentation planning with engineering teams
  • Produce high-quality documentation for various Amazon Web Services products.
  • Independently follow designs and standards to develop and deliver documentation for AWS products.
  • Write or manipulate code samples to support documentation.
  • Help define writing projects.

Basic Qualifications

  • A minimum of 7 years in a technical writing or lead writing role
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Degree in English, Technical Writing, Computer Science, or related field highly desirable
  • Proven experience designing and delivering developer-oriented documentation
  • Experience working with a programming language such as Python, Node.js, Java, etc.
  • Experience with XML-based publishing systems
  • Experience working directly with development teams
  • Experienced using multiple documentation tools to develop base templates and manipulate output styles

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience writing developer-focused documentation for database products, including SQL solutions (such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or SQL Server) or NoSQL solutions (such as DynamoDB, MongoDB, Cassandra, or Redis).
  • Some experience with web services and related technologies a plus
  • Previous experience working in an agile programming environment a plus
  • Passion to thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills
