Amazon’s Placements team seeks a Principal Technical Program Manager.

Amazon’s Placement team is at the forefront of large scale, algorithmically driven inventory management systems. Among other challenges, the team builds systems that programmatically manage where, when, and to whom we serve advertising. The team manages world class technology that provides inventory for multiple advertising programs such as Performance Advertising, Brand Advertising, Native Advertising, Merchandising, etc. The team regularly takes on ambitious initiatives such as the development of a write once run everywhere platform that allows for page owners to implement a standard ad component across all pages and devices. This includes desktop, kindle, tablets, mobile web, and mobile applications.
The Placement team sits at the tip of the spear for the advertising organization. It’s is responsible for the successful uptime of thousands of placements running billions of ad impressions across 10+ countries. Its work is seen by 100s of millions of customers across our properties. The work demands rigor in solutions development with the need for continuous improvements in scale, latency and customer experience.
What you are responsible for
As a Technical Program Manager for Amazon, you will be responsible for running technical programs for this large, complex technology stack. You will be responsible for ownership of one or more technical solutions including defining business and technical success metrics, project management and architectural decisions. You will contribute substantially to your own programs as well as supporting the broader team as a thought leader to improve our scale and performance. You will work across the placements organization to ensure all of our systems can scale at a pace that matches the ever increasing demands of our rapidly growing ad programs. You will also lead the proactive identification of common business and technical problem spaces across teams and ensure we build single, best-in-class solutions to meet common needs without undue restriction on the agility of individual ad programs. You will drive the direction and overall development of a world class technology organization and be at the center of all key system level decisions. You will determine how to extend the system into a platform that serves not only Amazon.com, it subsidiaries, and beyond. The programs you build will be the gold standard of inventory management within the ad industry.
As a senior technical individual contributor the person in this role will join the ranks of a large and growing community of Amazon Principal Technical Program Managers. As such, you’ll be a technical leader. You’ll help establish Technical Program Management standards and drive Amazon’s overall technical practices. You’ll work on Amazon’s hardest problems, building high quality, architecturally sound systems that are aligned with our business needs. Amazon.com senior technical contributors are pragmatic visionaries who can translate business needs into workable technology solutions. Your expertise is deep and broad; you’re hands on, producing both detailed technical work and high-level architectural designs.
As a Principal Technical Program Manager you’ll be expected to:
