Job Description

Woot.com is a snarky deal website - we pioneered the deal-a-day model, and continue to offer great bargains mixed with fun writing, odd videos, and an equally fun and engaged community. Woot is also a team of developers, designers, writers, product buyers, community moderators, and a host of other folks all dedicated to bringing our customers a bit of fun and a good price on stuff. Woot has a significant customer base - our Android app alone has had over 1 million installs since release in November 2015.

Woot is looking for a creative software development engineer to continue to improve Woot's mobile experiences and make them the best way to get a good deal or a good laugh wherever our customers are. You'll be part of a small development team, collaborating closely with the larger website and services development teams, product managers, and design and UX experts.

You'll be working on our entire mobile experience - our native apps (iOS, Android, and Kindle Fire) as well as the mobile website. Because of the small team and large set of products, we value flexibility, creative problem solving, and diverse opinions. We have a focus not just on delivering, but to deliver the right thing for the customer, to be able to maintain it, and to have the proper graphs and alarms in place to know when something goes wrong. You will have the opportunity to shape Woot's mobile technology approach and to grow your technical leadership skills.

The best candidate will obsess about our customers as much as our customers obsess about getting one of our Bags of Crap, and they will use empathy, curiosity, and passion to surprise and support the Woot community. We're not looking for a certain list of languages or expert level in both web and native mobile app development - we need somebody who is self-motivated, has a history of solving complicated problems, and can quickly learn.

Basic Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, including object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis
  • Experience gathering requirements, collaborating with team members, finding and implementing pragmatic solutions to problems.
  • Experience building maintainable and extensible software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building scalable websites, or building robust mobile applications. (Woot is built using C# - ASP.NET MVC for our website, and Xamarin for our apps.)
  • Experience building high quality and highly tested software.
  • Experience applying design patterns to new software projects and to improve technical debt.
  • Experience supporting a production service and improving its overall operations and reliability.
