Job Description

Amazon is continuing to invest in its Worldwide Online Display Advertising business to tap into the growing online advertising market. Amazon’s Advertising Platform team is looking for a Senior Technical Program Manager to oversee all major initiatives for our Enterprise Self Service (ESS) platform including driving the development of core functionalities for the platform, international expansion, API development etc. ESS is a self-service portal that helps ad agencies and advertisers to reach the right audiences across web and mobile devices with the right message at the right time using Amazon’s proprietary technology. You will work closely with the Ad engineering team and Product Management team in delivering on our product investments, plus other engineering teams in coordinating key deliverables. You will also partner with our sales and service teams, plus advertiser and developer customers as necessary. The ideal candidate is agile enough to thrive in an environment that blends a responsibility for not only envisioning creative solutions, but leverages a data-driven approach to validate these ideas

We are looking for you to be fully focused on the customer, understanding their needs and requirements, plus anticipating future trends that will serve their needs. You will also be excellent at getting results, being able to coordinate large, multi-functional projects on-time, anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make tradeoffs, and balance business needs versus technical constraints. You define or review the systems-level technical design of your projects and balance near term business need with long term implications for the ESS platform. You manage cross-functional communication to ensure all business and technical stakeholder’s needs are aligned.

You will possess a strong program management background, will have demonstrated experience leading medium to large projects. You will be data-driven and analytical. You constantly strive to expand our understanding of the metrics that drive the platform growth. Your communication skills - both verbal and written – will need to be excellent, and you will be able to clearly communicate at all levels in the organization, including senior management.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Technical Program Management experience in a related industry
  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Math, Physics, or related field or MBA
  • Experience defining projects, collecting requirements, writing detailed functional and test specifications, coordinating efforts to scope, schedule and deploy new features sets
  • Experience in analyzing cost/benefit of feature selection
  • Experience in on-time and on-budget delivery of large complex software or hardware projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A first-hand working knowledge of current web technologies
  • Online distributed systems and platform infrastructure design and implementation
  • Previously held a technical leadership role, delivering large-scale projects
  • Experience delivering with an agile methodology (SCRUM, RUP, XP)
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and discuss technical concepts, and a consideration for scale, efficiency and performance
  • Sharp analytical abilities and proven design skill
  • Prior software development and program management experience is a plus.
  • Product and/or Program Management experience in digital advertising, online services or related industry
  • Ability to operate and thrive with partial information and ambiguity
  • Excellent time management, resource management and planning skills
  • Ability to identify upcoming risks, issues, and bottlenecks and resolve issues that sometimes cross departmental boundaries
